WHAT OUR OWNERS HAVE TO SAY......

She plays with her toys well, sleeps all night long in her kennel…She is so smart she sits, stays and walks so well on her lead. Everyone that sees her says what a beautiful Labrador she is….when I asked Marian to pick me out a pup that is not afraid of anything she sure did. Bailey has not seen anything yet to frighten her. People animals or anything else. Our walks are now up to 2.2 miles and I believe she could go more but I can't! I'm glad to hear everyone else is just as happy as we are with their Dewberries' Pup. Bailey now goes to the mailbox with me and carries the mail into the house, takes it to her pillow and sits there with it until I ask her for it. She seems to thrive on "love and Praise", and this she is getting plenty of because she is so good. DW

Cabot also loves to lie on his back, and as I pass by his crate when he is napping I often smile--he looks totally relaxed. When he is in his yard, he loves to chew sticks and will occasionally chase a squirrel. Cabot has a job. We get up at about 5:45 a.m. each morning and after he has breakfast and goes out in the backyard for his morning toilette, he is put on a leash and we go back through the house and out the garage door. Off we go down the driveway, and at the end he finds the newspaper, picks it up and carries it back inside. We are still working on giving up the paper politely! We are having some windows replaced and the work crew gets to see a lot of Cabot, who has selected the perfect viewing position in the yard, where he can watch what goes on at several windows at the same time and, in general, watch over his turf. One of the men routinely plays fetch with him, but they all have remarked how handsome a Labrador Cabot is. They also mentioned how very strong he is, as it took two of them to hold him back one afternoon when they had to get in the backyard to put a window in. We have had Cabot almost one year now, and he has added a lot to our family. He seems more calm these days, and loves his routine. Many people comment on what a handsome dog he is! LH

Snoop is quite the pooch. His temperament is terrific.  I thought I would have to wait a year or two before his personality calmed, but he was really relaxed from the get go.  He even likes watching golf on TV with me. Mike

Jackson graduated from Beginner’s Obedience class yesterday with flying colors AT 19 WEEKS!  She gets called to the head of class at obedience class as an example. We had a little party at home. She is an eager learner. She won several competitions, the cutest of which was a “Come” test.  The teacher held her leash and I had to run far away from her and tell her “bye”.  When I got to the other end of the room, I was to give the Come command.  I knew we had this one hands down.  She won with a speed of 3.12 seconds.  She looked like a racehorse and almost knocked me over.  Many dogs stopped halfway, played with their leashes.  She did great in a down stay contest and a heal/sit musical chairs type game. She loves the water hose and attempts to fill her pool by pulling the hose to the pool and shaking it. If she learns to turn on the water, we are in trouble. A friend of mine brought her 9-year-old daughter over tonight to meet her. Jackson wanted to get in her swimming pool. The little girl got in with her. Jackson loved it, but didn't quite know what to think of having a little friend in "her pool" with her. We just started our Intermediate Obedience class a week ago. Her new teacher was amazed how young she is to be doing so well. She still continues to thrive and be an eager learner. She has a great personality and doesn't know a stranger. She is also good with kids. She was easily potty and crate trained. At bedtime, she gets her teddy bear and takes it to her crate, ready to go to sleep. Jackson is a faithful, loving dog who enjoys being right with her family members. Jill

My girl Jetty (out of Bella) is such an amazing girl, still. She's not yet 3 years old. My boy dog Flipper sired a litter recently, and I kept a black male that is 4 months old. Jetty is a super babysitter, always keeping an eye on the pup, teaching him the places he can get out of the pool, the right places to poop, playing w/him so sweetly. She is a dream come true.... We adore her and would not sell her, for any amount of money. She's 'way too smart, though. Jetty completed the first leg toward  her Senior Hunter title--yea! Jetty needs one major to complete her conformation championship (in addition to competing in rally and obedience).  She's earned the first leg toward her rally title. She is VERY sweet and loving.  She's
personality PLUS, and I would never sell her, no matter what. Jetty's one busy girl, so I try to keep her occupied mentally and physically. She keeps me on my toes. BB

Zucker is a beautiful boy. Everyone who meets him loves him... pups and people!  He has a sweet disposition and is an eager learner. We are 1/2 way thru obedience school and he is doing well. He now knows to hit the jingle bells on the door when he needs to go out. The wave down Zucker's back gets a lot of attention. Everyone comments on it and thinks it is very cute. I could go on and on about Zucker. We are all very happy! Zucker is a wonderful puppy and is learning things so quickly. He doesn't mind his crate at all. He cries for about 10 seconds and then settles in. We even find him playing in his crate during crate naptime. I took him to work with me yesterday and he did great. Slept and quietly played thru 3 hours of massage. We think he is wonderful! He gets along great with the kittens Lola and Peetie. What a funny little personality he is developing. He stays close to me wherever I go. He loves the kitties and they really love him. Caught him and Lola grooming each other today. At one point he was holding her down with his paws licking her and she was just purring away. She was also licking him which seemed to surprise him... he just laid really still! Zucker and Peetie like to play chase. They do these fake starts after each other... it is so entertaining! He loves everyone and is such a great puppy. You should have your puppies wear message boards with your website on them. Everyone wants to know where we got him. Zucker graduated from Beginner Obedience last night. He did really well in class. We plan to wait a few weeks before starting the next class, but will continue working with him daily. He is a good student and has learned so much organically, with very little effort. Thank you Dewberries for a wonderful boy! M&D

River remains his quiet self.  Mocha is full of energy. Cricket is growing and looking like a female River. JS (NOTE:  SHE HAS THREE PUPPIES FROM DEWBERRIES LABRADORS!!)

Jack is a good dog and loves living here. We have nature trails all over the mountain that he loves walking with us on. He has to be first on the trail and if we pass him he comes running to be the leader again. He is very smart. We are always amazed by him. KD

Charlie is my co-worker as I work from a home-based office.  Couldn't ask for a better companion around the house.  He's always ready for a big walk or a romp in the backyard when I need to take a break.  In between, he also chooses the belly up position for a nap in his crate. Matt

Guinness is a very special part of our family since we picked her up after our honeymoon to Alaska and just 3 months after we lost our 13-year-old golden retriever Tucker. We have a 10-year-old Golden named Shasta who loves his new little sister. They are the best buddies. Guinness gets along well with other dogs and even cats, although we have one cat, Mortimer, who wants Guinness to remain a respectful one foot away. She is very obedient and very smart. She learns commands very fast. She loves water and often jumps into the tub begging us to turn the water on so she can splash it with her paw. Most evenings she rests her head on my lap as we watch some TV before going to bed. When we turn off the TV and start turning off
lights she gets up from the couch and heads straight to her kennel for the night. B&KR

Dharma is turning out to be a beautiful looking girl, and a very playful puppy.   Both our Labs are very much a part of the family. They love to play outside with tennis balls and are very gentle to our 2 smaller dogs and our daughter who has Down Syndrome. They are very special DOGS. CK

Tanner is turning out to be quite a gentleman. His activities include 2 daily walks, running on the bike trail, going to the beach for a swim, and dipping in the family pool. The rest of the time, he can be found snoozing at the feet of his Dad in his Dad's home office.
I honestly have never seen a dog that enjoys lying on his back so much!....It is quite comical....He is very well behaved… Tanner was kennel trained, and although he is now allowed to be left alone in the house, still prefers to rest in his little secure nest. I adopted Tanner in June 2004 after losing my 14 year-old Chocolate Lab, Zeus. I was absolutely devastated when I lost Zeus, as I had him from 8 weeks old. I cannot tell you how happy I was when Marian called me to tell me the pup was mine! Tanner is a total joy in my life, and I am so very thankful for him. He is my best buddy! I am fascinated at how Tanner lies on his back so much. He will lie on his back with a toy and hold it with his front paws, pushing the toy up and down from his mouth. He is always good for a smile or two. He is quite intelligent, and even knows which clothes drawer holds my swimming trunks....as soon as I open that particular drawer, he gets so excited as he knows a swim is next! These Dewberries Labs are brilliant and have an excellent memory...it won’t take Tanner long to figure it out. CBCB

Giotto never once whined all night. Amazing! We took him for a long walk this am and he did excellent, walked right beside of me with a little assistance and encouragement. We are so thrilled with him. He is wonderful and Grant thinks so too. Thanks a bunch! Sullivans

Reece is doing great.  He potty trained very easily.  He had already learned to sit and shake and then he started obedience school last week.  He really is a very smart puppy and so well behaved.  Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt him.  He has become part of our family.

We are so happy with our little "Black Jack" Roe! He is without a doubt, the calmest lab I have ever seen! He is very much a people person. His training is progressing well--he can sit, stay, come, fetch and sometimes bring it back! We have a fountain in our yard that he considers his personal pool...I think he loves the water, but he REALLY loves being dried off at the end of his swim! Spoiled rotten already! He has NO problem climbing stairs and has been upstairs looking for David (who just left for college at Auburn)! He loves his nephew, Steele (NOTE: THEIR SON ALSO HAS A DEWBERRIES PUPPY) and considers him a role model!:-)Just a quick update on our latest Dewberries baby! LR

I let Lily go in the plastic baby pool yesterday.  Mitch and I laughed so much at her playing and running around.  I have taken her in the pool but held her.  She follows me everywhere I go in the house and yard.  She is so easy.  We are working on sit, stay and come and having a great time. Lily has been so much fun.  Everyone that sees her loves her.  I know she’s special since she is mine but I think everyone else does too. Thank you again for saving her for us.  SR

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR PORTIA, WHICH IS HER NEW NAME. OUTSIDE AT THE AM SHE WENT WITH ME TO DO POOL CHORES & PROMPTLY FELL IN THE DEEP END. IN A FLASH SHE WAS ON THE SURFACE SWIMMING IN PERFECT FORM... SHE CAME RIGHT TO ME AT THE STEPS... WHERE SHE NEEDED A BOOST TO EXIT.. AN AMAZING FEAT I HAD INTENDED TO INTRO MORE GENTLY. SHE SEEMED VERY PROUD OF HERSELF & DID A COMPLETE SHAKE TO DRY HERSELF.. SHE EARNED A BIG DRY TOWEL & A LOT OF PRAISE. SHE WENT BACK IN LATER IN THE DAY & THIS TIME I SHOWED HER THE EXITS... I AM ASHAMED TO SAY THIS PUP WAS SWIMMING AS FAST AS I COULD. THIS SHY PUPPY IS ACTUALLY VERY CONFIDENT AND QUITE WILLING TO TAKE COMMANDS AND GO NEW PLACES. SHE LOVES ALL THE NEW SOUNDS, TERRAIN AND PEOPLE. SHE HAS STARTED TO RETRIEVE STICKS ... TENNIS BALL TOO BIG. WE ARE CERTAIN THAT WE CHOSE THE RIGHT PUPPY. SHE IS A JOY TO HAVE AND SUCH A LOT OF FUN TO SEE HOW QUICKLY SHE LEARNS AND PLAYS. YOU DID A GREAT JOB OF BREEDING THIS PLEASANT AND BEAUTIFUL LAB. THE TIME YOU SPENT CARING FOR HER IS APPARENT.  BARBARA

Well, it's been about one year since Fiona became part of our home... thanks to you. The kids have adapted well to her and vice versa.   Fiona loves the pond and she's a fast swimmer too.  She loves to chase rabbits, chickens, armadillos, rats, foxes, and ducks. Fiona's personality is very vivacious, and she always wants to play.  She's a bit mischievous at times and has a way of finding the kids' stuffed animals.  One thing peculiar is that she rarely barks.  Only one time have I heard her give a strong bark and this is when a neighbor's cat passed by our back door. Bolton

Scooby is doing great. He is house trained, comes when called and walks very well on a leash. We are thoroughly enjoying him!! AL

Greetings from Stella's first week-end at home.  Just wanted to give you a report that we think Stella is the most perfect puppy we could ever have hoped for!  She has the sweetest disposition and is incredibly smart.  We are amazed at how quickly she is learning, although she is just a baby.  She is taking to housebreaking very well.  By 9:30 pm the very first night she already appeared to be letting us know that she had to go out by standing near the back door!  She slept through the night her very first night and hasn't had an accident in the crate yet.

She loves Peaches various chew toys and has already claimed a few as her favorites, most notably Mr. Duckworthy (a floppy stuffed duck).  She adores chasing ice cubes across the kitchen floor and developed an instant affinity for the choo hooves that we have on hand for Peaches.  She is generally very content to hang out and chew on her favorites toys while we cook, do dishes or otherwise work around the kitchen.  She has a wonderfully playful yet calm disposition.  That's not to say that she doesn't get up a head of steam at times and tear around in circles both in the house and in the yard!

Our visit to the vet yesterday was a big hit.  All the doctors and staff think she is incredibly beautiful and expect her to be big.  She was perfectly well behaved and got a 100% clean bill of health.   We also had a great outing to the local pet boutique to buy her a puppy collar and lead.  She has great confidence and is very happy and friendly with everyone we meet - both people and dogs.

I can't say enough about how smart and what a quick learner she is.  I swear, she could be the next dog on the Cottonnelle or K9 Advantix commercial!

Thanks for picking her out for us.  She is a wonderful addition to our family!

Several people who've met Stella have been asking about the breeder from whom we acquired her, so I've passed along your website to quite a few people who want to learn more about Dewberries Labradors.  She is such a beauty and has such a sweet disposition.

My pet-sitter Melissa looked after her for several hours yesterday while I had to go into the office and Melissa took Stella to her mother's office to show her off at lunch time.  Apparently, she was quite the hit at the local Board of Education and even the superintendent of schools wanted to hold her!  She is already being recruited for pet therapy when she is older - to be one of the dogs that children with learning challenges read to, in order to gain confidence in their reading skills.  AT, Princeton, NJ

BUT, TO LET YOU KNOW, THEY ARE NOT PERFECT.....

Hey, DewberriesVine (Yahoo Group for Dewberries Labrador puppy owners)! I guess you are wondering about what happened with the oil, so I thought I'd fill you in while I was sitting around waiting for my tail to dry.

I had a really fun night on Saturday.  The Parents went out to dinner and a movie, and put me in my lower kennel. You remember, the one that has the outside part as well as the inside part that goes under the house and sits on a concrete slab. Yeah, that one. Well anyway, I found out that if I jumped on the side of my inside chain link kennel really hard, I could move it! That's right, MOVE IT!  I must be really strong cuz it weighs about 100 pounds and all. So I jumped on it a few times, and managed to get it moved over enough so that the doggy door that goes to the outside kennel was halfway blocked off! Then, I went out the doggy door on the left side of the corner kennel post, and came back in on the right side of the corner kennel post, and I was in DISNEY WORLD!!

You wouldn't believe how much fun I had. I wish all my littermates could've been there! All that stuff underneath the house, I had no idea!! That's why the Parents put the kennel in there, so I couldn't have fun. Anyway, when the plumber put a new water
filter on last summer, he left the old one sitting back there in a corner, so I chewed that up first.

Then, for Christmas one year, Daddy's brother's wife--that's my Aunt Nancy-- made us these gigantic wooden trees with colored Christmas lights sticking through little drilled holes. Well, I chewed the cord until I had the plug off. Don't worry, it wasn't plugged in or anything. Now, when Aunt Nancy says, "Where are those gigantic wooden trees with Christmas lights we made you one year so you'd have to put them on your deck for when we came over for Christmas dinner, whether you liked them or not?", the Parents can say, "The dog ate it!" and it will be the honest truth! Next Christmas, they'll thank me for it, you watch!

Then, after all that small muscle activity, I decided it was time for some large muscle work, so I knocked over all of Daddy's big tools, you know, stuff like post-hole diggers, rakes, and shovels. Man, some of those shovels put my little pooper-scooper to shame! Anyway, I dragged them around and gnawed on the handles awhile, while figured out what I would do next.

About that time, I heard some garage activity from the far end of the house so I knew I'd have to finish up. When I was a pup, they let me play with empty milk jugs and I really had fun with those. So when I spied the plastic container of industrial grade chain oil, I figured that would be a good toy to end with. Usually when the Parents come home, I have about 10 or 15 minutes before someone comes to let me out, so I grabbed the bottle of industrial grade chain oil, went out the doggy door and came back in on the "kennel side" of the post. I laid down on my nice soft straw and got all comfy, and dug in. It didn't take me long to chew the cap off and WHOA! all this oily stuff came pouring out! Now I'm thinking, I am going to be in BIG trouble!  So I did what any self-respecting Labrador would do. I licked it up! Then I went back to chewing the container, not realizing that I was wriggling my bottom around in the some of the leftover oil. You'll see later why this part was important to include in the telling of my story. The other thing that is kind of important, if you aren't familiar with industrial chain oil, is that it is clear and really doesn't have much of an odor, which is how the Parents didn't find out about this until later.

Are you still with me? Well, I heard Daddy coming down to open my kennel gate, so I bolted out of the doggy door, being careful not to run into the kennel post, since I had rearranged my chain link kennel and all. He let me out and thought my pretty coat was wet because the ground was kind of wet from all the rain we'd had in the last few days. So I scampered into the house and into my crate, and settled down for a good night's sleep. Boy, was I tired.

Anyway, we're almost at the end here, so bear with me, cuz the Animal Poison Control part is coming up!

OK, so now its morning and Daddy lets me out of my crate before Mommy has finished fixing my breakfast, so she tells me to "Sit" while she mixed in my spoonful of canned food. Like I'm going to be needing anymore lubricant in the foreseeable future! The she tells me "OK", and that means I can eat my breakfast. But when I got up, Daddy says, "What is this oily spot on the floor?" And suddenly, they're both looking at my bottom, and I'm trying to eat my breakfast and who wants their bottom inspected while they are trying to eat their breakfast, for goodness sake? Mommy says, "Uh oh, I think he's gotten into something!" So Mommy takes me out on the leash to do my morning toilette, and Daddy heads down to my kennel.

Then I hear Daddy calling the report up to Mommy, who suddenly seems very interested in the finished product of my morning toilette. She said, "its loose". I don't know what that means, its not like I am in the habit of turning around to check my work or anything. Then I see Daddy coming across the lawn carrying my chewed up air filter and my chewed up container of industrial grade chain oil, as well as my chewed off plug from those ugly wooden Christmas trees, you know, the ones Aunt Nancy made that I told you about. Mommy took one look at the Industrial Grade Chain Oil container and said, "I'm going to call Animal Poison Control" and went inside. Daddy followed her, but not before he shut me OUT of my kennel, so I couldn't get back to Disney World. Anyway, Mommy was bordering on hysteria, all upset and everything. I kept trying to tell her that I was fine, and that I'd had one heck of a Saturday night, but she didn't understand and I figured I'd just go occupy myself pulling up a few little trees by their roots and wait to see how this all was going to play out.

That Mommy, she is always prepared! She had the Animal Poison Control number right in her cell phone, right next to the number for the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, cuz once she and Abby went on a mission trip to Mexico and she thought, in the event they got in the wrong kind of taxi and were kidnapped, she'd be on top of the situation. I could hear her talk to the vet who answered right away. She told Mommy just not to let me aspirate it in case I threw up, but that I would be OK. The vet knew all about this kind of thing, as if I wasn't the first Labrador to have thought of eating an industrial grade chain oil container!

Anyway, then Mommy made Daddy come out to "check my pupils" to see if they were "dilated", like I might be poisoned or something. The vet didn't tell her to do this, she just thought of it by herself. Mommy is something, isn't she? Well, Daddy came out and looked in my face, real close up, and then he said "How do I know what dog pupils are SUPPOSED to look like?" He said that just to me, in a whisper so Mommy couldn't hear. You probably get the idea that Daddy and I have a special bond, and we do. Then he called inside to Mommy, "They're fine!" and gave me a big wink. He must like Industrial Grade Chain Oil, too.

Anyway, the rest of my morning was pretty tame compared to the events of the preceding 12 hours. I did get a bath in my wading pool after the Parents came home from church. Then later, not being satisfied with the results, they gave me another bath. Tonight they said something about a "procedure" preventing me from having another bath anytime soon, so they rubbed my tail base with baking soda,

Then brushed it out, then wiped me off with a wet towel. I am almost good as new!

Well, so long for now, and I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am! After I figure out what a "procedure" is, I'll let you know how I do! I hope it is as much fun as playing under the house! Cabot
